You might have heard of ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that has been making waves across social media lately. If you've tried it, you would have probably noticed its almost human-like responses. However, in the newest release of GPT, GPT-4, AI takes human-like intelligence to the next level.

It is able to successfully take human examinations in professional and academic settings. Hitting the 90th percentile mark and higher on multiple exams, GPT-4 poses interesting questions for humanity as a whole. What exactly is the role of AI in our life?

It's not just limited to academic and professional pursuits. Crazily enough, GPT-4 can recognize and communicate humor.

It's when AI has become so advanced, that the ethics in question become super important to consider. With such human-like capabilities, the spread of misinformation becomes extremely easy and hard to regulate.

And there are other ethical implications as well. AI systems learn from vast amounts of data, and if the data used to train them contain biases, AI can perpetuate and amplify those biases, leading to discriminatory outcomes and outputs which can affect areas such as hiring, lending, and law enforcement, and can reinforce existing social inequalities.

And using such large amounts of data raises privacy concerns as personal data may be collected, stored, and potentially misused. Continuing on the data train of thought, AI systems operate based on patterns in data, but they may not fully grasp the context or consequences of their actions. This can result in unintended and potentially harmful outcomes that were not anticipated during development.

And it's not even critics that think this. The CEO of OpenAI, the company that has created GPT-4, admits that “current generation AI tools aren’t very scary,” but we’re “not that far away from potentially scary ones.” He agrees that regulation will be a critical measure for safety.

As we progress in the future, these ethical dilemmas will have to be kept in mind, so we can live in a safe world.
